Hello, my name is Jason Turnipseed, and yes, that is my real last name. And it is pronounced just as it is spelled. But I digress, I’m a graphic designer and artist living and working in Charlotte, NC. I’m a fun loving and energetic, avid art and music nut. My original love is music, and I always enjoy finding new bands and sounds. I can be found in my free time at the record store or searching the web for music. I volunteer my time at the McColl Center for Visual Art, which keeps me up to date and involved in the Charlotte art community. I would have been a musician except for the simple fact that I can’t carry a tune in a bucket. So, I had to find another way to channel my creative juices. This is how I discovered art. I found a passion for drawing and printmaking as a student at UNC Charlotte, where I graduated with my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Printmaking and a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration. After graduating I took a design job, where I found a new interest for Graphic Design. While working fulltime I’ve been taking classes at Central Piedmont, focusing in Graphic Design and Advertising to continue to grow my design skill set. I feel having two very different aesthetic abilities allows me to explore my different styles and look at things very objectively. With Graphic Design, which is very structured, I’m making work that is appealing to clients but with my fine art, I get to explore my own feelings and thoughts and let the art happen organically. I’m always looking for a challenge, and willing to learn a new program or talent, as it will only add to my list of abilities and bag of tricks on down the road.
